Hello there!
It is time again for the Lock of Love fundraiser! This year it will be held August 23rd, from 4pm-12 mid at Spectacular Events center in Bangor, Maine.
Safe and Sound Youth Transportation, Inc., is sponsoring and coordinating the event again, with Spectacular Events donating all of the food, and Robin Lozier of Safe and Sound, and Spectacular Events coordinating the HUGE silent auction! She has been instrumental in ensuring the success of this years event! Doors open at 4pm, with a first come, first served sign up sheet for haircuts. We will be closing and awarding all the silent auction items at 8pm, and will enjoy the DJ entertainment, as well as other random prize drawings throughout the evening. A 50/50 raffle will also be available.
Admission to this amazing event is either a Lock of Love ponytail, at least 6 inches, in healthy condition; bring it in, or we will cut it for you! (10+ is optimal); your gift of time donated to volunteering at the event, or a $10.00 per person donation, with all proceeds going to Locks of Love. These funds will assist with the cost of processing the hair that creates the hairpieces for children suffering from hair loss due to illness or disease.
Last years event garnered 240 Locks of Love, and $3200. that were sent to the Locks of Love Headquarters in Florida.
Pretty amazing...Let's do it again!
Please come to our event, and tell your friends and family. We will accept any monetary donation made out to: Locks of Love, to my address below, and I will forward your donation!
P.S. We need some more hairdressers. Please allow for 2 hours (maximum shift!) We are hoping for at least 16 helpers to keep things moving!
Thank you in advance for your continued support!

Sue Scheff on the success of Locks of Love Event!
The following was written by Lorraine Colpitts after her fantastic Locks of Love Event!
Hello there!
I would like to share information and highlights of the recent Locks of Love Fundraiser held September 15th, 2007 at Jeff’s Catering in Brewer, Maine.
We gathered 240 bags of hair and many $$$ funds to help with the costs of processing!!!
It was amazing….who knew that we would have a line out the door, and people waiting for over 3 hours to donate their hair?
Special thanks to the following: Jeff’s Catering, for not only providing us with an elegant, spacious, and beautifully decorated setting, but also for a delicious social buffet, (complete with chocolate fountain.) But also to, Lisa, Jeff’s wife, who took many before and after photos, printed them and provided them to me…she was the ultimate hostess…and kept the buffet fresh, many hours more than we contracted for….
Special thanks to the hairdressers, who set up shop, then stood on their feet for more than 6 hours… (Again, who knew?) The hairdressers were mostly from Scissor Excitement 1 (Sharon, Hampden) and Scissor Excitement II (Carrie, Bangor), and Lois Commeau from Headlines (Bangor), who was the coordinator of all the stylists, and Jamie Ferris. Their commitment throughout this whole process has been amazing!!! They contributed more than 50 bags of hair prior to the event! They were patient, kind, and professional in making sure the donor’s hair was not “just cut” but, shaped and styled…
Special thanks to Jim Nickerson, who donated his Emcee and DJ services to the Event. He was awesome…He dubbed several of the younger donors the “Locks of Love Dancers”, and led them in many line dances…too cute!
Thanks to all who contributed prizes for drawing for the donors of the evening! We ended up with 50+ prizes for random drawings for donors throughout the evening!
Thanks to the local Media who covered our event: Channel 7 WVII was generous in their coverage of this event, as was Bangor Daily News and the Weekly. Joni Averill also featured this event in one of her recent columns. Bangor Metro Magazine was the first to introduce our event in June, 2007. We would like to thank Tori for her generosity in featuring our story. Radio station 100.3 fm talked of our event the entire day, and we had many walk-ins because of it…Thanks to all!
Thanks to our donor with the ‘longest’ hair, Nancy Blanchard of Old Town who came in with 44” of hair and donated a hearty 30”. Also thanks to the Marden family of Frankfort for allowing their son Cameron’s (4) first haircut to be so worthy…the entire family offered their hair!
Lastly, special thanks to my friends, and family, and employees of Safe and Sound who sponsored this event. My Spokes model and niece Sydney Leonard donated 12” of hair, as did my two daughters in law, my 5 yr old granddaughter, Niomi…my 3 yr old niece Kathryn, (who was the youngest donor), her sister Elizabeth, who gave 8”, and my dear friend Laurie Lizotte who worked tirelessly and specially grew and donated 8” of her hair, as did I.
Other close friends and family members who could not donate hair gave gifts of time, and prizes for donors…They worked hard gathering prizes, hostessing, directing families and donors and signing them up. Thanks so much Mom, Susan, Kristen, Joan, Donna, Kim, Alicia, Marcia, Betsy, and too many others to mention! I could not have done this without you!!
I appreciate you all and will see you all back next year for the Second Annual Event in August!
